----Decepticon Base; Starbright's POV
How can I repay you, brother mine?
How can I expect you to forgive?
Clinging to the past, I shed our blood
And shattered your chance to live
Starbright frowned, looking at the dying mech that was his brother. Well, not his real brother, but his older 'cousin' that was like a brother. The Youngling stood proud and tall as his brother was dying. It's been several months since the run-in on the battlefield between his older half-siblings. Since then, Optimus and he, Starbright, decided to make a peace-treaty. Many Decepticons and Autobots objected.
'All mechs and femmes to their own, I suppose' The ruler of the Decepticons thought.
Though I knew the laws, I paid no heed
How can I return your wasted breath?
What I didn't know has cost you dear;
For there is no cure for death
Because of his foolish decision for punishing those who caused fights between 'Cons and Autobots, his mother's brothers' son was dying in front of him. Why had he ever agreed for the punishment?
Brother... How can I repay you...? Thunderbolt wheezed. Frowning, Starbright kneeled next to his brother-like-cousin.
What do you speak of brother? He whispered, frowning.
I... knew the laws... I paid no mind...
How can I expect you to forgive me? There is no cure for death...
I never... was mad... I... forgave you... the second af...ter... Thunderbolt gasped.
Older brother...
L...love ya... li'l'un... Thunderbolt's optics offlined, and his colors turned gray. Furious at himself, Starbright screamed in anger and pain. He whirled around and punched a hole in the wall.
Beautiful mother, soft and sweet
Once you were gone we were not complete
Back through the years we reached for you
Alas, it was not to be
Starbright stalked through the dark halls, then returned to the throne room, where his army still was. He was furious. He was on the verge of breaking. He couldn't stand the outbreaks. He'd rather have an all out battle against the Autobots than watch his brother die in peace-times. When his mother died, all those years ago, he knew things would change.
He was twelve when he was forced to take reign. His sister, Skylight, was by his side to offer him help and guidance. But so far, his favorites were Thunderbolt and Hurricane, his second and third respectively. Starbright wanted Starscream back, and alive and well. He wanted his mother to show him the way. He felt lost when he died. Now he lost Thunderbolt.
He felt beyond lost now.
And how can I make amends
For all that I took from you?
I led you with hopeless dreams
My brother, I was a fool
Starbright thought back to when Skylight first ran away with Barricade, and they had Nightlight and Blockade. It was a proud moment for the Decepticons. And then Blackout had Barrier-Backlash. It was a happy-yet-painful blow to them.
Blackout never made it.
Starbright looked at the dead body of Thunderbolt. He snarled in anger. He whirled around.
Whose idea was it to fight with the Decepticons!? He demanded from those watching. Weakly, Hurricane raised his hand. Starbright growled. I will deal with you later! He hissed. Hurricane nodded, optics sad. Dismissed, all of you! The ranks dispersed and Skylight stepped up to him.
Shiner... It isn't the end of the universe...
I led him! I told him he'd rule with me against the Autobots! Hopeless dreams! I was a fool! Starbright spat.
Are you talking about Thunderbolt or Hurricane? Skylight asked gently, placing a hand on the young ruler. Starbright shrugged her hand off.
Thunderbolt... and Hurricane... The mirror image of Starscream sighed and slumped in his throne.
You love him. It was not a question. It was a fact.
Don't cry for the past now, brother mine
Neither you nor I are free of blame
Nothing can erase the things we did
For the path we took was the same
Thunderbolt told me to never cry if I lost him or 'Cane, or you... I remember Mother always told me that none of us were to blame for Blackout offlining having Backlash... Starbright sighed, Right now, though, I feel like it was because I was born that Blitzwing raped him, wanting a Sparkling of his own... His optics shuttered offline.
Blitzwing raped Blackout because he's a fucking dipshit. Skylight told him, And you are not to blame for that. I tell Barricade the same thing. Nobody is at fault except for Blitzwing. And he'll pay the price once Barricade finds him.
How could I expect to call you wrong?
How could you be blamed for what we've done?
Both of us were fools in our desires
As we flew too close to the sun
... I was wrong... I told Thunderbolt we'd rule. Rule we did... We were close...
You flew too close to the sun... I heard Seekers do that... Skylight said softly. Starbright cracked a small, grim smile.
We were fools in our desire to succeed where our parents went wrong. He said lamely.
Don't blame yourself, or Thunderbolt or Hurricane. The peace was scratchy from the start. It was only a matter of time before Thunderbolt revolted. Skylight told him.
My brother is dead! Because of me!
He's dead because he was foolish! You never pressured him into things!
Beautiful mother, soft and sweet
Once you were gone we were not complete
Back through the years we reached for you
Alas, it was not to be
I told him we could rule over Autobots! The peace started and he told me if I passed those laws, he'd be the first to break it! Skylight, he kept his word! He broke the law! He did it because I passed it!
He did it because he hated Autobots! You hate them too, most of us 'Cons do! I don't, but I guess that's because my brother and mother are Autobots... Star... Starburst... Shiner... Starbright... Don't blame yourself... He hated Autobots, and he wanted to go down fighting...
He went down as a traitor! He told me he wanted to die as a warrior, a Decepticon Hero! Skylight, he died as a traitor... He's a traitor because I made the peace treaty... Starbright moaned. Skylight walked over and slapped the young leader.
You made the peace treaty for the future of the Sparklings.
If we just kept fighting, we would have won and the Sparklings would have had a better future!
My dreams made me blind and mute
I longed to return to that time
I followed without a word
My brother, the fault is mine
Starbright, you were an Autobot once... The femme medic said softly.
For a few hours... I hated it... My dream was to lead the Decepticons against them by Mother's side...
And when Uncle Starscream died, you wanted to bring him back.
Of course I did... My father was dead, my second Autobutt dad became the Autobot Hot Rod's lover and got knocked up, and I just let it happen silently. Then my mother died protecting me...
The fault isn't yours...
Of course it is... I shouldn't have gone into battle. I should have stayed in the meeting, learning what I could while I still had the chance...
Shiner, it's not your fault... The sooner you accept that the sooner you'll feel better... Skylight left the leader alone in the throne room. Starbright sighed and looked at his dead brother.
So where do we go from here?
And how to forget and forgive?
What's gone is forever lost
Now all we can do is live...
... Where do I go from here, Thunderbolt...? Starbright asked quietly.
... You can live... A voice whispered. Starbright looked up and saw his friend, Hurricane.
... No... We can live... Starbright got up and walked to his best friend. Confused, Hurricane frowned. He squeaked in surprise when Starbright kissed him passionately. When the leader pulled back, Hurricane smiled weakly, dazed.
... Yeah... I can live with that...

And besides, if it was anybody else, then it woulda messed up the entire story, and the whole 'sibling' theme woulda died. =/
